After a year of having my two turtles I got my geckos, I noticed they're colors were orange and red, so I decided to name them Mango and Strawberry. It was pretty fun when I first got them, I'd let them out to crawl on the walls and on the ceiling of my room. But getting them down was a bit of a challenge because they were fast and did not want to go back in their terrarium. By the way, I usually leave their tank open during the day for fresh air and incase they want to explore their corner of the room. But one time I forgot to close their enclosure and Mango ended up getting out for two days before I noticed. I usually check on them everyday but since their nocturnal they hide during the day, which means I won't see them until it gets darker outside. After a couple hours of looking for him, after noticing he was lost, I found him hiding under my bed, in my shoes, sleeping.
After another year had gone by I ended up buying 7 more turtles, all of them were different species too, which is fun. I ended up naming them: Bowser, Luigi, Crush, Squirt, Rocky, Puddles, and Tortuga. So at this point my house is filled with multiple large aquariums. I do plan on building a pond in my backyard so they'll be happier and it'll be easier to take care of them. I have a few fish too, the big ones are in the same tanks with the turtles and the smaller ones are by themselves. When my big fish were tiny the turtles kept trying to eat them, which was good because I didn't want a lot of my fish to keep breeding, so they kept the fish population at a constant rate. I even have one fish who is missing an eye because the turtles got hungry.
9 turtles, 2 crested geckos, few aquariums full of fish, a monitor lizard, and more in the future?
ReplyDeleteA fish with a missing eye because the turtles got hungry... Yikes Ja'kaii!
What a cool inaugural blog post to IS101-3003, Fall 2023 ^_^
Wow! I know some species of monitor lizard can grow quite large. I bet feeding time is fun.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. I tilt my hat to you... I have 2 cats, Sylvester and Lily and they drive me crazy.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. I love turtles, fish and reptiles, too. I used to have a few back when I was younger. I plan on getting more fish and turtles in the future. I recently went to a reptiles and pets convention at Santa Fe Station. I didn't buy anything but was definitely inspired to build a terrarium.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that you are dedicated to all your pets. I'm sure having turtles is a lot of fun and super fascinating as I had one when I was younger before my aunt sadly gave it away after asking her to watch it while I was on vacation.
ReplyDeleteJa'kaii I can tell you have a huge love for animals. That is a very admirable trait; the patience you have to care for nine turtles, two crested geckos, aquariums of fish, and a monitor lizard is respectable! I'm sure they are all happy and in good hands. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love your name and all of your pets' names. Especially Mango and Strawberry, it's very cute! I find myself laughing on the part about the lizard sleeping in your shoes! I also love animals, though not as much as you. They're such precious creatures. I imagine it must be very entertaining to watch them.
ReplyDeleteYour love for animals says a lot about you, in a good way of course. Are you a Mario fan? Bowser and Luigi sound very familiar. That's actually amazing you have so many turtles. You should share images in future posts!
ReplyDeleteThat is the coolest thing I've seen so far, if you are okay with it could we see some pictures of them on your next post. I once tried buying a whole bucket of turtles but was stopped by my dad before I could give the money to the vender. A very sad kid that day I was.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I'm very curios on how your pets looks like and would love to talk about it. I have some pets you might be interested. I also have Asian water monitor, stingray, Japanese shark, water snakes, and pug haha.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you have 9 turtles! I have 1 cat and he's a handful. Respect to you for being able to care for so many animals.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter just got gecko I am scared of it to be honest. I like animal I used to rescue them as kid a growing. I also have husky he is very good boy.
ReplyDeleteI get told I have a lot of pets 1 cat and 2 dogs but 9 turtles, multiple fish and the lizards sounds like to much maintenance for me.
ReplyDeleteWow that is a lot of little scaly critters! I'm glad they bring you so much joy and fulfill your childhood dream of owning lots of animals. I'm not going to lie, if I found a lizard in my shoe under the bed I would have freaked out.
